How to: Decorate for Christmas

With the holiday season just around the corner, it's time to spruce up your home and create a festive ambiance. Here are some interior design tips to help you decorate for Christmas:

Deck the Hall(way)!

Create a warm welcome by decorating your door and hallway. Buy a wreath or make your own using holly, pinecones, sparkling lights and whatever else you can get your hands on. If you have an old wreath hiding somewhere in your attic, give it a makeover with some fairy lights or a colourful bow. Christmas lights and elegant tinsel can transform any reception area into a magical wonderland. A well-decorated entry sets the tone for the rest of your home.

Turning the Tables

Dress up your dining table with festive flair by embracing the natural elements of Christmas like branches of mistletoe or a poinsettia centrepiece, or some seasonally inspired placemats. The traditional colours of dark green and red work well for table decor, but you could always try a more subtle palette of blues, whites and hints of gold that compliment any home. Complete the look with candles or sparkling fairy lights to make your table truly magical.

A Feast for the Senses

The best interior design isn’t just about visual appeal, but about engaging all five senses to create a truly immersive and magical experience. Christmas is a great time to get creative, especially with the wonderful smells associated with the season. Use scented candles, essential oils, or simmering pots with fragrances like cinnamon, pine, or orange to create a festive and welcoming atmosphere. Baking Christmas cookies or brewing mulled wine not only gives you a delicious treat to look forward to, but will fill your house with a beautiful aroma. You could also bring out fluffy blankets, cable-knit throws and velvet cushions to indulge in tactile cosiness.
