How to: Spruce up your Kitchen

If living rooms are the heart of the house, kitchens are surely the mind. A constant hub of activity, it is the central meeting place for the family morning, noon and night. So how can you keep your mind fresh and lively in the chaos of everyday life?

Here are some top tips from our experts on easy ways to spruce up your kitchen.

Change up your artwork

Maha suggests changing up your artwork. Investing in a bold focal piece can completely change the aesthetic of your kitchen and elevate it from a purely functional area to a bright and inviting centre of the house. There are so many great options to find art but here are some of Maha’s favourites:

  1. Curio

Curio curates furniture and art from independent artisans and its a great place to find unique pieces by up-and-coming designers.

  2. Quintessa

An international art consultancy and studio, that boasts a hugely talented in-house team who can help you find the perfect addition to your home.

  3. Maddox Gallery
Based in London, LA and Bern, Maddox Gallery specialises in contemporary and modern pieces from established artists and exciting newcomers.

Rearrange your furniture

Our mid weight designer Helen encourages working with what you have.

“We can get so used to seeing our rooms laid out in a certain way that even feature pieces get lost in the background.”

In larger rooms, tables, chairs and even fridges and other appliances can be reshuffled to open up new spaces with no additional cost (but make sure you have support with heavier objects!).

Even in smaller spaces, there’s lots of potential for a reshuffle; moving smaller appliances like coffee machines and microwaves is easy to do but can have a big impact.

Bring in some green

Our junior designer Anisha suggests experimenting with biophilic design. Not only is it stylish and functional, bringing filtered air and brightness to inside spaces, it's also a more budget-friendly option. What’s not to love?

When picking your plants, make sure to note their care instructions- sturdier plants will be able to withstand the heat of the kitchen best, or fake plants allow you to forgo the difficulties of plant raising altogether.

Some great sites to start your botanical collection are Patch, that even has its own curated kitchen set and Forest, which not only offers a huge range of plants but also beautiful homeware that “bring nature into your home.”
